Marco Asensio’s future at PSG is still uncertain after he spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa. The Spanish midfielder impressed in the Premier League, and there were reports he might return—but that doesn’t appear to be happening.

CaughtOffside previously reported that Villa are now preparing a bid worth up to €15 million to sign Asensio on a full-time basis.

Manager Unai Emery is keen on bringing him back, convinced the 29-year-old would add creativity, experience, and quality to his attack. Villa’s pursuit is also boosted by Jacob Ramsey’s £40 million move to Newcastle United, which has freed up both funds and a squad spot to complete the transfer.

Despite Emery reportedly wanting Asensio back, that won’t be happening. On Sunday, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reported that the veteran attacker will be joining Fenerbahçe on a permanent deal.

TBR Football recently reported, citing sources, that Asensio has agreed terms on a three-year deal with Aston Villa’s football chief Monchi, who is now in talks over a permanent transfer with PSG.

Moreover, TBR Football chief correspondent Graeme Bailey confirms that Aston Villa believe they are close to bringing Asensio back to the Second City.

“Villa boss Unai Emery has been a key figure in pushing for the move,” Bailey said. “Emery has made it clear he needs more players and Monchi is working hard. Emery loved what Asensio brought to the squad last season.

“Asensio enjoyed his spell with Villa and has agreed his terms and both sides are confident a deal will be agreed.”
