Fabrizio Romano has now handed Tottenham Hotspur a big boost in their pursuit of a former Premier League midfielder.

While there has been plenty of speculation on which player the Spurs will add to their attack in January, it appears the North London club are also eyeing an experienced addition in the middle of the park.

Several sources are now reporting that Tottenham are exploring bringing Ruben Neves back to England, two-and-a-half years after the midfielder swapped Wolves for the Saudi Pro League.

The 28-year-old’s current deal with Al-Hilal runs out next summer, and a new update has now handed Spurs’ chances of landing the player a major boost.

A couple of days ago, Spurs Web relayed a report from CaughtOffside, which claimed that Neves is ready to leave the Saudi Pro League side in January and return to Europe.

Fabrizio Romano has now taken to social media to provide an update on the former Wolves man, revealing that he still has not signed a new deal with Al-Hilal, with just days left until the January window.

The journalist adds that several European clubs have already approached Neves ahead of the transfer window.

Romano wrote on X: “Ruben Neves has not signed a new deal yet at Al Hilal despite a proposal on the table for weeks. Current deal expires in June 2026, and several European top clubs have started approaches over potential move in January. Seen as a potential big opportunity in midfield.”

Who are Spurs main competitors for Neves’ signature?

We have heard plenty of suggestions that Man United and Newcastle are battling Spurs for the former Wolves man.

Over recent days, it emerged that Galatasaray are also ready to challenge Spurs for Neves, with the Lilywhites alleged to be readying an offer for the player.

Additionally, it has been claimed that the experienced midfielder’s camp have already spoken to Tottenham and other Premier League sides regarding a January move.
