Tottenham Hotspur have accelerated their winter business, with Fabrizio Romano now confirming a second signing is close as the club moves quickly to bolster their squad.
Tottenham Hotspur had to speed up their pursuit of Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher as Aston Villa were closing in on the 25-year-old.
Spurs have often fallen victim to hijacks, as seen last summer with the Arsenal-Eze deal and the Morgan Gibbs-White Forest saga.
This time, however, it is Tottenham who have swooped in under the nose of Aston Villa to agree a deal with Gallagher, after Unai Emery’s side had reached a verbal agreement with Atletico Madrid.

Tottenham reach agreement with Atletico Madrid for Conor Gallagher
Tottenham have now received their second “here we go” from Fabrizio Romano this winter window, as a deal has been agreed with Conor Gallagher and Atletico Madrid.
According to the journalist, Gallagher has informed Atletico Madrid of his decision to join Tottenham Hotspur, making it a confirmed “here we go” for the club.
Spurs are set to pay a €40m fee as part of a permanent deal, beating Villa, who had agreed terms with Atletico earlier in the day but lost out as the player did not give the final green light.

Gallagher set to follow Souza as Spurs second winter addition
Gallagher should now join left-back Souza from Santos as Spurs’ second signing of the winter window.
The left-back could be announced this week after Tottenham agreed a £15 million deal with Santos.
The addition of Gallagher comes at a crucial point for Spurs, who are set to be without Rodrigo Bentancur for three months and are in desperate need of more midfield depth.
