Speculation continues over Federico Chiesa’s future at Liverpool, with reports in Italy now suggesting that the winger is willing to take a pay cut in order to get a move back to Juventus.

Chiesa has been linked with a return to his former club throughout this month so far, with his opportunities at Anfield continuing to be limited.

Although he has already made more appearances this season compared to his first campaign on Merseyside, the 28-year-old is still struggling to find a way into Arne Slot’s team, having only made four starts among his 21 appearances, including just one start in the Premier League.

Chiesa was handed a rare opportunity on Monday in the FA Cup victory over League One side Barnsley, although he was brought off after an hour despite the game still being in the balance at 2-1.

His lack of chances with the Reds has led to suggestions that he could make his way back to Italy during the January transfer window. Juventus is being strongly linked with re-signing the forward, while Chiesa is also rumored to be trying to get a move back to Turin.

Recent reports have suggested that he has been calling some of his former teammates, while a new claim from Gazzetta dello Sport says that he is willing to take a pay cut in order to get his wish.

It’s claimed that Chiesa is on around €6 million ($7M) per year at Anfield, but he would be prepared to reduce that figure if the two clubs can strike an agreement.

There doesn’t seem to be much chance of that at the moment though. The Athletic has indicated that there is little appetite from Liverpool’s side to let Chiesa go this month, given that Alexander Isak is set for a long lay-off through injury.

Juventus wants to sign him on loan, but it would take a significant permanent offer just to bring Liverpool to the table.

Juve boss Luciano Spalletti has already addressed the rumors suggesting his club wants to bring Chiesa back this month.

The former Italy manager called for the winger to return to his homeland during his time in charge of the national team, although he has been much more coy on the matter recently.

“I am pleased you are giving me this news, seeing as we haven’t even had a meeting yet on the transfer market, but it’s the first I’ve heard of it,” Spalletti said earlier this month.

“For the moment, it’s just thrown out there, but absolutely nothing concrete behind it.”
