Fireworks and flares were let off as hundreds of Galatasaray fans marched through Manchester tonight. Supporters of the Turkish club brought the city centre to a standstill as they made their way to the Etihad ahead of the Champions League clash with Manchester City.
Escorted by dozens of police officers the fans made their way from Shambles Square, where they had gathered in large numbers throughout the afternoon, through Shudehill and onto Great Ancoats Street before they headed out along Ashton New Road towards the ground.
On Addington Street near Oldham Road the air was filled with thick red smoke as several flares were lit and rockets launched into the sky. As passers-by stopped to film the procession, the fans were in full-voice breaking into chants of 'We are the best, we are best, Galatasaray, we are the best' and 'Istanbul! Istanbul!'.
Manchester Evening News photographer Sean Hansford was on hand to capture all the action...
