Strasbourg boss Liam Rosenior is among the early favourites to replace Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca.
The Italian head coach is set to leave the club after a poor run of form in the Premier League and a fallout with the Blues hierarchy.
Maresca made comments following a 3-1 defeat to Leeds United, where he brutally revealed it had been a disastrous two days before returning to action against Everton.
"The way the players want to learn has been fantastic and this is the reason why I praise them - because with so many problems, they are doing very well after a complicated week," the Chelsea boss said as he began discussing a Malo Gusto assist.
"Since I joined the club, the last 48 hours have been the worst because many people didn't support us."
When asked exactly what he meant, Maresca added: "Worst 48 hours since I joined the club because people didn't support me and the team."
He was specifically asked if he meant people internally at the club, he replied: "In general. In general," before later clarifying it was not directed at the fans, or the media: "I love the fans and we are very happy with the fans."
However, with just one win in their last seven, Maresca missed his post-match press conference after the draw with Bournemouth, leaving Willy Caballero to take charge of his media duties.
The former goalkeeper said: "Enzo [Maresca] isn't feeling well. He didn't feel well the last two days but still made training and made the game today. I took his position just to clarify that he isn't feeling well enough to do the rest of the stuff that the manager has to do, so I'm here instead."
The Italian is now set to leave the club, just 18 months after taking over. He picked up the Europa Conference League trophy and the Club World Cup last summer, and with the Blues still in contention for all four competitions this season.
Rosenior, who is currently in charge of Chelsea's partner club Strasbourg, is emerging as one of the favourites to take over at the Blues (11/2 SkyBet) having impressed during his time with the French club, guiding them to a seventh placed finish in his debut season.
The Ligue 1 club is also owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital's BlueCo group. Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola (9/1 SkyBet) is also among those to be linked with the Chelsea managerial position and is one of the bookmakers early favourites according to oddschecker.
Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas (9/1 Sky Bet) has also been linked with the role having impressed with Serie A side Como, while ex-Barcelona boss Xavi (4/1 SkyBet) is the favourite to take over.
Crystal Palace boss Oliver Glasner (11/2 SkyBet) has also been linked with a move to Stamford Bridge having impressed at Selhurst Park, winning the FA Cup last season.
