Everything you need to know about Arsenal's late January options

  1. Squad Overview: Arsenal currently boast one of the deepest rosters in Europe after integrating elite summer signings like Viktor Gyökeres and Martin Zubimendi into the starting XI. This abundance of world-class talent means Mikel Arteta now has two high-level options for nearly every position, ensuring the team remains competitive across all four major competitions.
  2. Financial Strategy: Despite their on-field success, the club's heavy spending in 2025 has created a need to offload fringe players to stay compliant with financial sustainability rules. Selling players who are no longer essential to the tactical setup will allow the Gunners to reinvest in younger prospects or secure a major late-window signing.
  3. Dream Signing: In the interest of having multiple options in every position, players able to fill multiple gaps can be worth their weight in gold. In that sense, Newcastle defender Tino Livramento could be a dream signing given his adaptability in both full-back positions, which is where the Gunners have been most affected by injuries this term.
  4. Livramento Within Reach: Despite having a strong reputation at St. James' Park, Livramento is originally from Croydon and could be tempted back down south. The former Chelsea prospect has a little more than two years left on his contract, though the Magpies would likely expect significantly more than the £40million they paid Southampton for his services in 2023.
  5. Christian Nørgaard: The Dane joined only last summer but has struggled to secure a consistent starting role, often being used as emergency cover in the defensive line. With major European clubs like Borussia Dortmund showing interest, cashing in now allows the club to recover their initial investment before he becomes a permanent fixture on the bench.
  6. Gabriel Jesus: While it may sound like madness given he's only just rediscovering his top form, cashing in on Gabriel Jesus while stick is high could be the wise move before he's hit by any more injury setbacks. His reputation as a proven winner means he still commands a premium price tag, which the club could use to fund a more specialised target elsewhere.
  7. Leandro Trossard: While he remains a reliable impact player, the 31-year-old winger is reaching an age where his resale value will begin to decline rapidly after this season. Moving him on now would provide a healthy cash injection and clear a definitive path for younger stars like Eberechi Eze to take on more responsibility.
  8. Myles Lewis-Skelly: This highly-rated academy graduate is unfortunately blocked from first-team minutes by the exceptional form of established defenders like Riccardo Calafiori and Jurrien Timber. Selling a homegrown talent represents "pure profit" for the club’s financial accounts, though a loan away could be the more sensible option for the youngster to continue his development.
  9. Tommy Setford: The teenage goalkeeper currently serves as the third-choice option and has almost no prospect of competitive minutes behind David Raya and Kepa Arrizabalaga. Since he is surplus to the immediate needs of the title charge, receiving a fee for him now helps the club’s bottom line while allowing the player to find a team where he can actually play.
