Florian Wirtz believes he has overcome his difficult early spell at Liverpool as he insists he continues to grow since arriving in the Premier League.

The German international endured a challenging settling-in period following his high-profile switch from Bayer Leverkusen, with plenty of focus on his performances after the $155 million move.

However, Wirtz is establishing himself as a pivotal figure for the Reds and is in excellent form off the back of a stellar international break with Die Mannschaft, which yielded two goals and two assists in a 4-3 victory over Switzerland.

Wirtz has acknowledged that his initial period with Arne Slot's side proved tough, but he is confident he has turned a corner and can elevate the Reds to greater heights.

He told TNT Sports: "I know that they paid a lot for me. I still think that I'm improving, it was a difficult start for me because I wanted to impact the team immediately.

"I have to accept it, I'm feeling very good now on a physical level. I'm feeling good in England now because this was a big change for me, now I'm trying to make the team better."

Wirtz will be keen to deliver a decisive contribution for Liverpool in their Champions League quarter-final first-leg clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The odds are firmly against the six-time European champions following a turbulent season, further marred by a tough 4-0 defeat to Manchester City in the FA Cup.

A disappointing outing at the Etihad Stadium has dashed Liverpool's hopes of adding domestic silverware to their trophy cabinet, in a campaign that has also seen them fall short in their Premier League title defense.

PSG arrives as reigning champions of Europe's most prestigious club competition, with Liverpool's visit to the French capital cast under a shadow by their recent struggles in the top flight.

Speaking ahead of the match at the pre-match press conference, Wirtz made clear that fixtures of this magnitude are precisely what he envisioned when he made the move to Anfield.

He said: "These are the games you want to play as a player and I dreamt of when I came to this club.

"We try everything to do a good game tomorrow and next week also at Anfield. So yeah, these are the games you want to play as a player and for sure come through this round."

Wirtz will be at the heart of everything for Liverpool if the team manages to pick up a positive result at the Parc des Princes, with the Reds relying on him to perform at the highest level.
