Bradford City fan Daniel Wright, who received three banning orders before winning a EuroMillions jackpot, named two London firms when picking England's toughest football mob
A notorious football hooligan whose life transformed after scooping a EuroMillions jackpot has revealed which firm he considers England's most formidable, with two London clubs among the standouts.
Daniel Wright, who has accumulated three football banning orders throughout his career, previously wreaked havoc alongside a Bradford City crew known as The Ointment.
His turbulent history includes a six-year prison sentence for his violent exploits. However, he's now recognised primarily as the individual who claimed £1,000,000 through the UK Millionaire Maker in April 2022, a substantial windfall that enabled him to purchase a new property and a luxurious Rolex valued at £40,000.
Despite currently residing in the market town of Yarm, Durham, and leading a transformed existence, Daniel, 41, recently looked back on his hooligan days.
When questioned about the most intimidating football mob he'd encountered, he declared: "The best firm I have ever seen, Manchester United at Bradford.
"Anyone who tells you Man Utd are not a good firm are chatting absolute s***e. Their numbers are just f***ing massive."
Speaking further on the Anything Goes with James English podcast, Daniel continued: "I would say early naughties, they were the best in the country by a long way. That was possibly their peak. They were really good then. Really good."
He subsequently alleged they once mobilised 600 supporters prepared for street confrontations.
When asked whether their numerical strength explained their supremacy, he confirmed: "Definitely, because who else can get 600?"
However, Daniel, who said The Ointment were too inconsistent to be considered the most fierce, then paid homage to other rivals who came close to being as infamous as The Red Army.
He said: "My top five would probably be, not in any particular order, Man Utd, Tottenham, Millwall, Birmingham.."
After a pause, he continued: "Middlesborough, Sheffield United, Leeds, Aston Villa, them teams I would probably have up there as well."
And singling out Leeds, he later added: "I would say in my time we have always got the better of Leeds but I have seen Leeds on their day, like England Turkey in the Stadium of Light.
"That firm of Leeds I seen that day was an absolutely unbelievable firm. They are a top firm on their day, you can't deny that."
It isn't the first occasion Daniel has spoken about his terrace experiences, having previously told Danny Dyer's Real Football Factory that no substance matches the sensation of witnessing rival supporters clash, calling it the "best buzz in the world".
He has also written a fictionalised autobiography titled Northern Monkeys which draws loosely from his ascent within The Ointment firm.
Speaking last month about the positives and negatives of hooliganism, Daniel remarked: "Best friends I have ever had. Still my friends today. They would do owt for you. Always stick by you.
"And the negative is obviously going to jail and like having, it is not personally for me, it is more what it did to my family, my mum, my dad, my sisters, you know, my brother, whatever, niece and nephew.
"They're the negatives, ruining other people's lives."
