Former Liverpool winger Raheem Sterling finds himself in a predicament, seemingly stranded at Chelsea.
Sterling was informed by Blues manager Enzo Maresca that he had no future at Stamford Bridge a year ago. This led to him making a season-long loan move to Premier League rival Arsenal. However, Sterling's stint in North London was less than impressive, and he returned to Chelsea.
Since then, the former Manchester City star's prospects have not brightened, and it was anticipated that he would seek a transfer this summer. Fulham had emerged as a potential contender for Sterling's services, but a deal did not materialize before the Premier League window closed on Monday.
This leaves Sterling in an unfortunate situation where he could potentially play no soccer until the next window in January.
He could still potentially secure a move to the MLS, Turkey, or Saudi Arabia; those respective windows are still open.
However, Sterling was not swayed by a move to the Middle East earlier this summer, and that reportedly remains the case now.
The winger still has two years left on the lucrative contract he signed back in 2022 when making a move from Manchester City.
Sterling, 30, has made 81 appearances for Chelsea, scoring 19 goals.
While he failed to secure a departure from Stamford Bridge, the same cannot be said of a few of his exiled teammates.
Ben Chilwell has left Chelsea permanently and joined Strasbourg.
The French side has offered him a two-year contract, following his loan spell at Crystal Palace during the latter half of last season.
He joins Mike Penders, Mamadou Sarr, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Mathis Amougou, and Kendry Paez in making the move to Chelsea's sister club this summer.
French defender Axel Disasi was also keen on securing a transfer away from West London before the deadline.
However, he too was unable to secure a new club and appears set to remain a Chelsea player for now.
