Former Arsenal first-team coach Carlos Cuesta is eyeing up a reunion with Fabio Viera this summer.
Cuesta, 29, who left the Gunners last month to become the new head coach of Serie A club Parma, is plotting a move to bring Viera with him, after the midfielder spent last season on loan at Porto.
Viera, 25, signed for Arsenal in a £30million deal back in June 2022 and showed glimpses during his first season at the club. However, he was unable to cement a regular spot in the starting XI and it was the same theme in his second campaign. In fact, Viera started just ONE Premier League match in 2023/24.
That prompted Viera to search for more game time last season and he ended up returning to Porto on a season-long loan. During his second spell at his boyhood club, Viera made 42 appearances, scoring five goals and providing six assists. His final game for Porto came in the Club World Cup against Al-Ahly.
Now, according to The Mirror, Viera could leave Arsenal once again, this time to Parma. It's claimed that the Italian outfit have made 'initial enquiries' about signing the former Portugal Under 21s international.
Parma, now managed by Cuesta following his appointment in June, is prepared to include Viera as part of his new-look project. Arsenal are ready to sell the playmaker and would be open to doing business with Parma.
Cuesta spent almost five years at the Emirates Stadium working alongside Arteta, but now he's embarking on his first-ever senior managerial role. Parma finished 16th in Serie A last season.
A permanent departure for Viera could come as Arsenal sign Noni Madueke from Chelsea. The Gunners are closing in on a £52m deal for the 23-year-old, who has agreed to personal terms on a move to north London.
Elsewhere, Arsenal have signed three first-team players so far this summer. Kepa Arrizabalaga signed in a £5m move from Chelsea, Martin Zubimendi made the £51m switch from Real Sociedad, and Christian Norgaard completed the £10m transfer from Brentford. More are expected to follow, however.
As well as getting a deal for Madueke done, a new No. 9 is anticipated to arrive. Viktor Gyokeres has emerged as the frontrunner for the centre forward position after scoring 54 goals and grabbing 13 assists in 52 matches for Sporting CP last season. The Swede has agreed to join the Gunners on a five-year contract.
