Martin Odegaard is back in Arsenal training as he closes in on his return to action following a knee injury.

The Gunners are gearing up for Wednesday's Champions League group phase clash against Bayern Munich and football.london understands Odegaard is now pressing to be part of his first match day squad since suffering damage to his MCL against West Ham in October.

Arsenal are preparing to welcome back a host of key first-team stars following a handful of notable early-season injuries.

Odegaard was with the Arsenal squad on Sunday for the North London Derby demolition of Tottenham in a non-playing capacity.

He was not considered fit enough to make the bench but it appears he now has a chance to feature against Bayern.

Unfortunately for Arsenal, four other players were missing however including star striker Viktor Gyokeres.

Gyokeres has been missing with a muscle issue since he netted the opener in the 2-0 Premier League win at Burnley on November 1.

Gabriel Magalhaes, Kai Havertz and teenage gem Max Dowman were also missing from training ahead of Bayern.

There was more good news on Piero Hincapie and Riccardo Calafiori though after both suffered knocks against Spurs.

Both defenders trained on Tuesday at London Colney while Gabriel Jesus was also on the grass with his team-mates as he works his way towards his first minutes since January.

Calafiori has been nursing a hip problem which saw him miss both of Italy's final two World Cup qualifiers against Moldova and Norway.

The left-back was fit enough to start against Spurs though but there appears to be a strong chance he could still be rotated or rested against Bayern with Myles Lewis-Skelly in need of minutes.

Noni Madueke came off the bench in the 4-1 blitz of Tottenham to make his first appearance since injuring his knee in the 1-1 draw against Manchester City in September.

Gabriel Martinelli was an unused substitute as he returned to the match day squad for the first time since picking up a groin issue before the international break. Both trained on Tuesday. Both will be available on Wednesday.

Free agent Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain was also training with the group alongside talented teenage centre-back Marli Salmon.
