Defender Jamaal Lascelles has left Newcastle United after nearly 12 years to join Leicester City on a deal that runs until the end of the season.

The 32-year-old made 253 appearances for Newcastle and captained the Premier League side for much of his time at St James' Park.

He has featured just twice for the Magpies since March 2024 when he suffered a serious knee injury that ruled him for the entirety of last season.

Lascelles' final appearance for the club came off the bench in September's 2-1 defeat by Arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Foxes have also brought in Manchester City's 18-year-old midfielder Divine Mukasa on loan for the rest of the campaign.

The England Under-19 international made his debut for Pep Guardiola's side this season and has featured six times in all competitions for City.

Moves were made by Championship club Leicester to sign both Mukasa and Lascelles on transfer deadline day on Monday but delays with processing paperwork meant their arrivals were confirmed a day later.

Lascelles, who last played in the Championship when he helped Newcastle to promotion in 2016-17, joins a managerless Foxes side that is struggling in the bottom half of the second-tier table.

He also previously played in the Championship for Leicester's East Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest, the club where he came through as a teenager and made his professional debut in 2012.

"I'm buzzing to get through the door," he told the Foxes website, external.

"I just can't wait to help out as much as I can, try to push us up the league," he said.
