Liverpool agreed to let Luis Diaz leave in the summer after failing to agree a new contract and the Colombian's wage demands would have put him among the top earners

Arne Slot admitted last week that Liverpool is missing Luis Diaz after his starring role in the Premier League title success, before talks broke down over a new deal.
The Colombian scored 17 times in all competitions for the Reds last term amid speculation over his future, with Diaz having two years left to run on his contract at Anfield. But negotiations did not progress and Liverpool gave Diaz the green light to join Bayern Munich in a big-money transfer.
Diaz has shone since his move to Germany under Vincent Kompany and with Liverpool lying in sixth in the Premier League, Slot couldn't help but reflect on the 29-year-old's exit.

There were more players that were influential in our results. But I think we have replaced them with very good players as well," Slot said.
"If this club gets, for a 28-year-old, an offer like that, then this club, because it is built on sustainability, chooses to sell a player and we are an exception in the Premier League, especially at the top of the Premier League, for that.
"But that is why it is also so nice that we are able to achieve the things we have achieved in the last few years with that model. But he is doing very well at Bayern and that is not a surprise to me."
Liverpool failed to meet Diaz's wage demands and the Telegraph reports that the Colombian would have earned similar to that of skipper Virgil van Dijk at Anfield.
However it is stated that Liverpool's FSG owners felt such a deal was not in the club's best interests. Once the deal had stalled, there was 'no way back' for the Reds top brass.

Diaz has helped fire Bayern to the top of the Bundesliga and the German giants are again among the favorites for the Champions League. And the ex-Liverpool star is relishing his time away from Anfield.
He told the Guardian recently: "From the first day, my teammates and the club also made me feel welcome very quickly, and even though learning the language is a little difficult they made me feel like part of the family.
"The truth is that with Bayern I have found a very united team, at ease -something I have always been used to and something I have always wanted. So that’s why this has been very easy.
I was also coming from good years at Liverpool, the final year especially, so playing in the Premier League really helped me. And for me I wanted a challenge and to play in the Bundesliga, try a new experience. I knew that I would do well. Obviously I didn’t expect for me to do well so quickly but that’s what I work for.
