Arne Slot retains the support of Liverpool’s board, according to multiple reports in the wake of Saturday’s 3-3 draw against Leeds United.
While further dropped points and an inability to twice hold on to a win at Elland Road highlighted the team’s ongoing fragilities, that has been overshadowed by Mohamed Salah’s sensational comments in the post-match mixed zone.
In a jaw-dropping tirade against the club and Slot, Salah claimed he has been “thrown under the bus” by Liverpool, revealed his relationship with the head coach is non-existent and hinted he could be on the verge of departing. This has all heightened the pressure on Slot.
However, the Times reports that Liverpool’s owners, FSG, will give Slot him to fix the issues that have plagued the campaign and that shows “no sign of wavering” despite Salah’s outburst.
The report adds that “patience will not be limited”, but it will be results that determine Slot’s future, not Salah’s recent remarks.
Meanwhile, talkSPORT states the former Feyenoord man “has the full backing of the board”, with a belief that Slot should be given the freedom to decide on team matters.
The outlet also claims Liverpool executives were “stunned” by Salah’s actions, with the 33-year-old’s involvement in the next two games under threat.
Saudi Pro League bosses are also said to be monitoring the situation and remain keen on the prospect of signing Salah in January.
Given there are just two games until the Egyptian departs for the African Cup of Nations, there is, therefore, a real chance that Salah has played his final game for Liverpool.
The ex-Chelsea man has started the last three games on the bench and remained an unused substitute in two of those encounters. After watching Liverpool drop more points at Elland Road, he made a beeline for reporters after the match.
“I'm very, very disappointed,” he said. “I have done so much for this club down the years and especially last season.
“Now I'm sitting on the bench and I don't know why. It seems like the club has thrown me under the bus. That is how I am feeling. I think it is very clear that someone wanted me to get all of the blame.
“I got a lot of promises in the summer and so far I am in the bench for three games so I can't say they keep the promise. I said many times before that I had a good relationship with the manager and all of a sudden, we don't have any relationship.
“I don't know why, but it seems to me, how I see it, that someone doesn't want me in the club.
“This club, I always support it. My kids will always support it. I love the club so much I will always do. I called my mum yesterday - you guys didn't know if I would start or not, but I knew.
“Yesterday I said to them, ‘come to the Brighton game; I don't know if I am going to play or not but I am going to enjoy it’. In my head, I'm going to enjoy that game because I don't know what is going to happen now.
“I will be in Anfield to say goodbye to the fans and go the Africa cup. I don't know what is going to happen when I am there.”
