Liverpool has been handed an opportunity to settle scores with Paris Saint-Germain as the Reds join Arsenal in the Champions League quarterfinals.

Arne Slot's players overturned a 1-0 first-leg deficit against Galatasaray, storming to a 4-0 victory at Anfield in the second leg. On Tuesday, Arsenal secured its spot in the quarterfinals with a 2-0 home win over Bayer Leverkusen, progressing 3-1 on aggregate.

In contrast, Manchester City and Chelsea both bowed out after failing to reverse substantial first-leg defeats against Real Madrid and PSG, respectively. Newcastle joined them on Wednesday, suffering a 7-2 thrashing at the hands of a rampant Barcelona.

To round off a disappointing last 16 for the six English clubs, Tottenham was unable to bounce back from last week's 5-2 hammering away to Atletico Madrid, despite a 3-2 victory on the night.

In other matches, Harry Kane and Bayern Munich sailed past Atalanta with a 10-2 aggregate rout, while Sporting Lisbon staged a remarkable second-leg comeback, defeating Bodo/Glimt 5-0. This sets the stage for a tantalizing quarterfinal round.

Liverpool is set to face PSG, while Arsenal will clash with Sporting. Both Premier League teams will play away in the first leg and enjoy home advantage in the second, courtesy of their superior league phase finishes.

PSG ousted Liverpool from the tournament last season before clinching its inaugural European Cup. In the 2024-25 edition, Arsenal made a trip to Sporting in the league phase, having previously encountered the Portuguese team in the Europa League knockouts three years prior.

Bayern and Real Madrid are set for what could arguably be the clash of the round. Meanwhile, Barcelona will have its chance at retribution against Atletico Madrid, having lost to Atletico in the Spanish Cup.

In a twist of fate, Barca and Atletico are scheduled to face each other thrice in four matches next month. They're set to clash in La Liga on April 4 at the Wanda Metropolitano in Madrid.

Last year's semifinalist, Barcelona, delivered the standout performance of the week as it decimated Newcastle with four second-half goals. A double each from Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski were supplemented by goals from Marc Bernal and Fermin Lopez, as well as a penalty from Lamine Yamal.

However, Bayern and Arsenal are still the favorites to win the competition. Both teams topped the league phase, although Arsenal had the upper hand over the German team with a 3-1 victory when they faced off in November, as Mikel Arteta aims to steer the Gunners toward an unprecedented quadruple.

But what about Real Madrid? The 15-time European champion succeeded in overcoming City despite Kylian Mbappe's limited involvement in the tie, and the Spanish team will be eager to salvage a turbulent campaign with a 16th title.

The first legs will take place on Tuesday, April 7, and Wednesday, April 8. The second legs will follow on April 14 and April 15.
