Gabriel Jesus faces a somewhat uncertain future at the Emirates Stadium, and Andrea Berta will be forced to make a decision at the end of the season.
Gabriel Jesus has provided an update on his future. The Arsenal striker only has a year or so left on his contract at the Emirates Stadium, despite having previously voiced his desire to put pen to paper on new terms.
In an interview with Globo Esporte during the international break, Jesus claimed Palmeiras remains close to his heart. He made a name for himself as one of the most exciting young players in South America during his time with the Brazilian giants.
In August 2016, Manchester City forked out £27m, plus add-ons, for the then-19-year-old, beating a host of top European clubs to his signature. Then, in July 2022, Arsenal prised Jesus from the Etihad Stadium, wrapping up a deal worth £45m.
When quizzed on his boyhood club, as quoted by Sport Witness, the Brazil international said: "I manage to follow them a lot. That bond between me and Palmeiras was never broken.

"Whenever I’m in Brazil, I go there, especially when I’ve had injuries and treated them there. Obviously, I have the dream of returning one day to play, not to end my career.
"I think about going back every day – my wife can back that up," added Jesus, whose contract at Arsenal will expire in June 2027. "I came up in 2014 with Palmeiras fighting not to go down.
"Then we won the Brazilian Cup and the league after 22 years. What they’ve built since then is history.”
At the end of last year, Mikel Arteta ruled out the prospect of the 28-year-old leaving in the January transfer window. When asked whether he would allow Jesus to leave, the Arsenal boss said: "No, I don't consider that, and especially with the situation we have right now.
"I think Gabby has a lot to offer to the team, and he is proving that straight away in the first minutes that he was available to play. He has put so much [in] to be in this position again, and now the focus is to be with us.
"A player of his quality, a player who has given us so much, and when he comes with the energy he did the other day, he is certainly a player who has to be pushing and aiming [to start], that's for sure."

A few weeks later, Jesus outlined his desire to stay at Arsenal and possibly sign a contract extension. The 28-year-old said: "I think my first target is to be healthy.
"This is my fourth season at Arsenal, and maybe I play one and half, two seasons, I used to ask myself why? Now I don't ask myself anymore. My wish is to stay at Arsenal, and then I have a contract as well.
"Obviously if you ask me, I want to extend my contract, I want to stay, I want to win trophies."
Meanwhile, the Palmeiras president has made no attempt to hide her plans to sign Jesus one day. In an interview with Esporte Record back in October 2025, Leila Pereira openly admitted her admiration for the Gunners star, sharing her desire to bring him back to the Allianz Parque in São Paulo.
"Of course Gabriel Jesus," she said. "And I'll say more. Soon you're coming back home, Gabriel! One day you'll return!"
