Gabriel Martinelli makes humble Noni Madueke admission after breaking Arsenal record

Gabriel Martinelli has humbly claimed Noni Maduele's wonder-strike was better than his own personal show-stopper in Arsenal's 3-0 Champions League demolition of Club Brugge.

Mikel Arteta's wingers were both in red-hot form as the Gunners made it six wins from six in the Champions League in Belgium. Madueke got the ball rolling with a 30-yard stunner before doubling Arsenal's lead after the break.

Martinelli then got himself on the scoresheet with a brilliant curling strike and speaking to TNT Sports after the game, he conceded that Madueke netted the best goal of the match.

The Brazilian said after he became the first Gunners star in history to net in five consecutive Champions League matches: "We were speaking, I said your one was nicer than mine! We were both happy to help the team."

He continued, adding on the win: "I'm really happy with the result and the performance. We've spoken about that yesterday, I wasn't thinking too much about this, I was just trying to go on the pitch to help my team.

"It was good to score and now this achievement, five goals consecutively in the Champions League. Really happy with that, I always try to help the team and I'm really happy with this achievement."

Arsenal now face Inter Milan and Kairat Almaty in their final two group phase matches. They are virtually already home and dry as far as a top-eight finish is concerned, given they are the only team left in the competition with a 100 per cent record.

Speaking after the game, Arteta paid tribute to Madueke following his brilliant brace as the England international continues to provide competition for Bukayo Saka.

The Spaniard said of his £52million summer signing: "Unbelievable goal. When you talk about individual quality, individual action, a magic moment, that's it. A player that is able to pick the ball that far, dribble past people and finish with the quality and the power that he's done.

"The same as Martinelli as well, I think at this level you want to win games, you need individual players to step up and to do something different. So, I'm very happy because now we have some players back in the front line and you can tell how much better we have done."

Arsenal are now preparing for Saturday evening's Premier League clash against Wolves when they will seek to respond following last weekend's 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa.

Manchester City are now just two points adrift of Arteta's men with Villa also hot in pursuit of the league leaders.
