Galatasaray are considering a move for Manchester City defender Manu Akanji and hope to complete a deal for Ederson. The Turkish giants have been interested in City's goalkeeper for months but could yet raid the Blues for another member of their squad.

Akanji, 30, was a late signing for Pep Guardiola in the 2022 summer window after the manager called for more depth in his defensive ranks. Akanji would go on to play an integral part in an historic year for City, topped off in Istanbul where they won the Champions League for the first time in the club's history as well as completing the Treble.

Guardiola has continued to use Akanji regularly since and he was one of the most available defenders last season as all the centre-backs suffered injury problems. However, there have been rumours about the player's future this summer amid the need for City to trim their squad.

It isn't clear if Akanji would be open to the move and, as shown with Galatasaray's interest in Ederson, an acceptable offer for City has to be on the table before a transfer can really get going. However, it is a developing situation for the final two weeks of the window - especially since Guardiola reiterated at the weekend that players need to leave.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games this season, an increase of up to 100 more.

"Too much. Too many people, too many players," he said.

"It’s not about Eddy. Today there was Rodri and Phil [Foden] out, Kovacic is injured but will be back and Savinho and Josko are out. On the bench we had Nathan and Gundo.

"I like a deep squad to compete in all competitions but I don’t want to leave players at home. I don't want it. It’s not healthy.

"You cannot create a good vibe or atmosphere to compete. Everyone has to feel they can play and can help and compete with their mate for the opponents. The club has known it since last season so it's not news but the situation is what it is.

"In the next two weeks, people will talk with players and agents to find a solution."
