Gary Lineker in agreement with Bukayo Saka over Viktor Gyokeres' Arsenal goal drought

Gary Lineker is in agreement with Bukayo Saka that there is more to Viktor Gyokeres' game than goals for Arsenal - and they will also undoubtedly follow soon. The Sweden international has worked tirelessly at the tip of Mikel Arteta's attack following his summer arrival from Sporting CP.

However, Gyokeres only has three Premier League goals to his name to date but speaking to football.london on Saturday evening after the 2-0 victory over West Ham, Saka made it clear the Arsenal squad feel their frontman is playing a selfless and vital role for the team.

Lineker feels similarly and told the Rest is Football Podcast: “I also think that even though he’s not banged loads of goals in yet, but he’s got his fair share, Gyokeres, I think he gives them something different.

"He gives them a threat behind, which creates more space for the midfield and even the wide players, and he’s aggressive with his running and he likes to spin and he attacks the space in the box.

“The goals will come for him because with the service that I think he’ll inevitably get, particularly now Saka is back in the mix and looks like his old self after his injury. So I think it’s quite promising for Arsenal, I think we might be in this season for a really good title race.”

Statistically, this is the longest Gyokeres has gone without scoring a goal since his time in the Championship with Coventry City.

But his pressing, hold-up play, movement and relentless work rate is bringing the best out of Arsenal's attack and the Gunners have now won four consecutive matches in all competitions heading into the international break.

Saka, who notched up his 100th Premier League goal involvement on his 200th top-flight appearance for Arsenal at the weekend, said of Gyokeres : "I think Viktor's playing really, really well. There's no doubt he's going to score goals.

"What he's bringing to this team, us as his teammates, we're so grateful for what he does, how he holds the ball, how he makes the runs, the threat he gives us.

"He's a big part of the reason why we're winning these games. His goals will come. We know that, we believe that and we believe in him. I don't think there's any doubts. He's still up, he's still happy and he's still giving his best every game."

Gyokeres has nine goals and four assists in his last eight appearances for the Sweden national team, who host Switzerland and Kosovo in two crunch World Cup qualifiers during the break.
