Gary Neville and Ian Wright agree with bold prediction before Liverpool vs Arsenal

Jamie Carragher has disagreed with Gary Neville and Ian Wright's predictions for Liverpool taking on Arsenal this weekend in a heavyweight clash at the top of the Premier League.

Both teams have won two games so far this season, with Liverpool beating Bournemouth and Newcastle and Arsenal coming out on top against Manchester United and Leeds.

After Carragher had predicted a 2-1 victory for Liverpool in Sunday's game, Neville responded: "I fancy Arsenal to win. I’m going to let him [Carragher] pick the score, but I think Arsenal will win. Arsenal to score two from set-pieces. It will be the land of the giants with Arsenal on Sunday.

"He’ll go with [Mikel] Merino, [Declan] Rice, [Martin] Zubimendi, then [Eberechi] Eze or [Leandro] Trossard, but he’ll have the big back four, four or five in the box and they’ll score from set-pieces.

"I think Arsenal will score two from set-pieces. Liverpool will score one and it will be 2-1 to Arsenal."

Unsurprisingly, the former Arsenal striker Ian Wright also backed Arsenal to prevail away from home, despite the Gunners having not won at Anfield in the Premier League since 2011.

"I think Liverpool will score one, but I’m going 2-1 to Arsenal," Wright said, speaking on The Overlap, brought to you by Sky Bet. "If that [Liverpool] defense did what they did against Bournemouth, we can win the game."

Rio Ngumoha, 16, came off the bench to win Liverpool the game against Newcastle on Monday. And Wright also backed Arsenal's own wonderkid, Max Dowman, 15, to get some minutes at Anfield.

"He’s fearless," Wright said. "I don’t know if that’s just because it’s an exuberance of youth, but he’s still going at a man... a man.

"He’s very creative, he scores good goals, he’s everything you need. Do you know something? I think he’ll get some minutes at Anfield. Why wouldn’t you put a 15-year-old on at Anfield if you can, especially if you’re winning?

"The fact is, if he’s good enough to be there now... you can’t just be good enough to be there against Leeds when you’re 4-0 up. If you’re good enough to be in the first team, that means you’re in the first team."

Liverpool.com says: Arsenal will offer a similar threat to Newcastle from set-pieces and Liverpool will have to set up better from those situations, otherwise it could be a long afternoon.

Given how early in the season it is and that a point apiece would be a decent result for both sides, that is probably where the smart money lies. The game last season finished 2-2, though the Premier League title had already been confirmed at that point.
