Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand on same page over Alexander Isak impact on Liverpool

Gary Neville and Rio Ferdinand are both in agreement that Alexander Isak will be a game-changing signing for Liverpool this summer as the Swede closes in on a move to Anfield.

Liverpool and Newcastle United have agreed a deal worth $169 million (£125 million) for Isak after a long-protracted saga. The 25-year-old is now set to make the switch after pushing for several weeks.

"Liverpool won it really comfortably last year and have had a great transfer window," Neville said, via the Daily Express, ahead of the new Premier League season kicking off. "If they get Isak, which it looks like he's agitating for a move, then it will make them massive favorites.

"But Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, I think, will push them closer than last year."

"I’ll tell you what yeah, if Liverpool get Isak and Guehi, it’s over, they could win the lot," Ferdinand said on his YouTube channel. "Champions League, everything, them two players will be at Liverpool before this transfer window is finished as well.

"I mean, Hugo Ekitike has done well his first three games I think he’s played, everything that they would have wanted, they have seen from him so far.

"Even [against Arsenal], they had a goal disallowed and he was in the thick of it, he was offside but he’s there, he’s there or thereabouts, he’s going to score goals.

"But Isak in there, that cast, that Premier League know-how, that bit more experience, someone who can score goals out of nothing... £130 million they’re saying, if Wirtz is worth £120 million then Isak, definitely, £130 million [would be] well spent."

In addition to signing Isak, Liverpool looks set to confirm the arrival of Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

It is understood that a deal worth $47 million (£35 million) has been agreed with the South London side. He is set to undertake a medical with the countdown on to the 7pm deadline (2pm ET).

The Reds had growing confidence that a deal could be done on transfer deadline day, and that appears to be imminent. Guehi played and scored for Crystal Palace against Aston Villa over the weekend and has remained professional throughout Liverpool's pursuit.

With under 12 months left on his contract at Selhurst Park, the Crystal Palace hierarchy preferred to cash in now rather than lose him for nothing in 2026. And ultimately, that gave them little in the way of a bargaining position.

Liverpool.com says: Isak and Guehi, assuming there are no late hiccups, will see quite the end to the window for the Reds. Arne Slot's roster, at that point, will be looking very strong.
