Gary Neville and Roy Keane disagree over Crystal Palace vs Liverpool prediction

3 hours ago 21

Liverpool will look to maintain its 100 per cent record so far this season when it plays Crystal Palace this weekend, with Arne Slot set to face Oliver Glasner for the second time in quick succession.

Crystal Palace, of course, held Liverpool to a draw at Wembley in the Community Shield, emerging as victors in the penalty shootout. This time, the Reds will want to seek revenge for that defeat by winning at Selhurst Park.

Speaking on the Stick To Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, however, the panel disagreed with their predictions on how things might unfold. Roy Keane went for a 2-1 win for Liverpool, while Jamie Carragher and Gary Neville agreed on a 1-1 draw.

While Liverpool visiting Selhurst Park will conjure images of the famous 3-3 draw in 2014 for some, the Reds actually have a very good record in south London.

Liverpool hasn't lost away at Crystal Palace since November 2014, winning all but one match there since then. In 2020, it won 7-0, and has actually had more trouble against the Eagles at Anfield in recent years.

The last time Liverpool beat Crystal Palace at home was September 2021. Since then, it has drawn 1-1 twice and lost 1-0. Diogo Jota scored the only goal when the sides met at Selhurst Park a year ago.

Hugo Ekitike will be suspended for the game after he was sent off against Southampton earlier this week. In celebrating his winning goal, he took his shirt off and picked up a second booking.

"I was so excited tonight to help the team achieve another victory here in our home for my first Carabao Cup match," Ekitike wrote on Instagram in the aftermath.

"The emotion got the better of me tonight. My apologies to all the Red family, thanks to the fans who always support us and to my teammates for secured (sic) this victory!"

"I saw many things I would have loved to see differently," Arne Slot said. "So let's start with the injury of Giovanni Leoni, which we have to see what it is.

"Then conceding a not very smart, I can also say stupid, second yellow with a suspension that comes from it. Conceding not the best goal you can concede.

"So there were a few things not to like, but also a few things to like. I think Giovanni played really well until he got injured. I judge him. Mamardashvili, our goalkeeper, played a very good game, which probably also tells you that Southampton was very involved in the game.

"Federico Chiesa had a very good game to assist. So a few things to like as well, but a lot not to like also."

Liverpool will host Crystal Palace at the end of October in the Carabao Cup fourth round. The Reds were drawn as the home side having beaten Southampton earlier this week.

Liverpool.com says: Crystal Palace always makes things difficult for Liverpool but the Reds should have enough firepower to get over the line. Avoiding going behind will be vital but Slot's men are yet to trail in a game this season.
