Gary Neville described the job that Arne Slot has done since arriving at Liverpool as "absolutely incredible," and admitted he has been proven wrong by the Dutchman.
Neville expected Jurgen Klopp's departure last year to present a significant challenge to the Anfield club, but Slot won the Premier League during his first season in charge.
Despite suffering back-to-back defeats in recent days, the Reds sit atop the league table after six games and are coming off the back of a transfer window in which a number of high profile players were signed at great expense. The challenges that Liverpool have faced since the start of the season are to be expected given the overhaul that took place over the summer.
On the whole, Slot has done an incredible job at Liverpool, and that is something Neville recognized during the latest episode of the Stick to Football podcast.
"Jurgen was like a force of nature when he came in with his personality," former Manchester Unied captain Neville said. "I thought when Jurgen Klopp left, the personality drop and the challenge of him leaving would be enormous.
“What Arne Slot has done in 15 months is absolutely incredible. The way in which he represents the club, the way in which he carries himself in interviews, the way in which he makes decisions – he’s been absolutely flawless since he’s come in.”
Liverpool legend Kenny Dalglish, who was appearing as a guest on the podcast, also gave his verdict on both Klopp and Slot, describing them as "brilliant people."
"I think both of them are brilliant for the football club, but different people," Dalglish said. "Jurgen has his way of working, the development that he did and the success he had. He built up that success, he wasn't handed it on a plate, he built it up, made a huge contribution towards it.
"Arne's come in, and last year he only bought Chiesa, so he's done fantastic. If the manager makes the right decision, you've got a good chance, if you've got the proper players coming in, and you're making the right decisions, they're a hard team to beat.
"I think that what happened with Jurgen, and that's what's happened with Arne, and they're both brilliant people."
