Gianluigi Donnarumma's agent, Enzo Raiola, has discussed the possibility of a Premier League move while also criticising Paris Saint-Germain, amid links to Manchester United.
The Italy international was left out of the French champions' squad ahead of their UEFA Super Cup clash this evening (Wednesday) against Europa League winners Tottenham, reportedly due to a contract dispute.
Donnarumma has entered the final year of his contract at Parc des Princes, and both parties have been unable to reach an agreement, leading to Lucas Chevalier being signed as his replacement.
After the goalkeeper took to social media to demand the chance to say a proper goodbye to PSG fans, his agent has criticised the club's handling of the situation. Raiola said (via Gazzetta dello Sport): "Gigio is very disappointed, I'm shocked, I didn't expect this from PSG.
"We've had so many seasons of respect and success, a castle of four years has collapsed in ten days. The situation went on for a long time because PSG had offered lower terms in the spring, which Gigio had accepted out of respect for the club and the fans. However, in March-April, once we had decided to move forward together, the club changed the rules again. So we preferred to talk about it again after the Champions League final.
"We spoke again after the [Club] World Cup, they confirmed the situation, and I replied that Gigio would respect his contract but would not renew. Then, in the last ten days, PSG changed everything again. It's a lack of respect, beyond the technical decisions the coach talks about, and in the coming days we will also discuss with my lawyers how to address the situation. We will consider solutions now, maybe in the Premier League there will be clubs able to pay what’s needed. Paris Saint-Germain are asking for big money. They talk about respect, but it’s only about the money."
Reports on Tuesday linked the Champions League winner to Manchester City, with L'Equipe claiming that a deal has already been agreed with the goalkeeper. However, The Manchester Evening News understands that City have not denied interest in Donnarumma but their preference is to keep Ederson.
Meanwhile, PSG boss Luis Enrique previously explained that the club needed a goalkeeper with a different profile.
"I am supported by my club and we are trying to find the best solution," he told a news conference on Tuesday. "It is a difficult decision.
"I only have praise for Donnarumma. He is one of the very best goalkeepers out there and an even better man. But we were looking for a different profile. It's very difficult to take these types of decisions."
