New Manchester City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has hinted that he is excited to be playing in the same team as striker Erling Haaland after completing his deadline-day move to the Etihad Stadium.

The Italian entered City's radar during the summer transfer window after it became clear that Pep Guardiola was eyeing a massive overhaul of the goalkeeping department. After the Blues hijacked Newcastle United's bid for James Trafford, it seemed like City had done all of their business in that area.

However, once it became clear that previous stalwart Ederson was looking likely to join Fenerbahce, the opportunity to sign Donnarumma arose. The 26-year-old was entering the final year of his contract in France and the Champions League holders had already signed a new first-choice goalkeeper in Lucas Chevalier.

Talks between PSG and Donnarumma over a new contract broke down as the French giants were unwilling to markedly improve the terms of his current deal. In the end, City were able to snap up the shot stopper for £26m.

Having been welcomed to the Etihad Stadium on social media by Haaland, Donnarumma hinted at his delight at being in the same dressing room as the Norwegian. "We will finally play together brother Erling," he wrote on Instagram after sharing the striker's welcome post.

For City, next week's Manchester derby cannot come soon enough after back-to-back defeats in the Premier League. However, Guardiola will have a headache as he decides who will start in goal.

Trafford has been the first choice so far this season but he was at fault in the defeat to Tottenham and underwhelmed against Brighton. Donnarumma has not played a competitive fixture since the Club World Cup final defeat to Chelsea in mid-July.

During that tournament, the Italian kept a whopping five clean sheets in seven appearances.
