Following Liverpool's third consecutive defeat, Giorgi Mamardashvili delivered a determined message.
The Reds suffered a 2-1 loss to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, resulting in the team dropping below Arsenal in the Premier League table. Arne Slot's squad has experienced a hat-trick of losses after their recent setback against Chelsea, having previously been defeated by Crystal Palace and Galatasaray within the last week.
With the October international break now here, Liverpool plan to use this period for recovery before they face Manchester United in their next league match later this month.
Mamardashvili made his Premier League debut as he took up the goalkeeper position at Stamford Bridge. The Georgian shot-stopper, who transferred from Valencia during the summer window, was chosen by Slot to start due to Alisson Becker's injury absence.
After the game, Mamardashvili took the opportunity to address the Liverpool fans. "The result wasn't what we deserved, but every experience makes us stronger," Mamardashvili shared on Instagram with his 730,000 followers.
"Today I made my Premier League debut, living a childhood dream. The first of many. Just trust the process."
With Alisson expected to be sidelined post-international break due to a hamstring injury picked up in the Champions League defeat to Galatasaray, it's likely that Mamardashvili will retain his place in goal. The club has yet to provide a definitive timeline for Alisson's return.
Slot reflected on the match, saying: "Another disappointing loss. That's clear.
"Another game similar to the (Crystal) Palace game. Although the game was completely different because the playing style of both teams are completely different.
"But not similar to the Palace game. In the first half I think we played not our best football, but still were able to create three big chances.
"They've only had one, and they've immediately scored it, which was completely different to the Palace game, where Palace created a lot of chances in the first half. And the second-half performance, like in Palace, I liked, we've created more than enough chances to score more than one goal – last week and today.
"I think there was a period of the game where I felt, 'Now we're going to win it.' We came very close a lot of times with chances, but also with moments where we had four-versus-three in our favour, not outplaying it well enough in the last pass.
"And in the last 10 minutes, it was an end-to-end game; both teams could have won it. We didn't, and Chelsea did."
