Graeme Souness to return to TV alongside Gary Lineker after three-year absence

Liverpool icon Graeme Souness is set to make a return to the small screen in 2026, joining forces with former Match of the Day host Gary Lineker. The Scottish football pundit stepped away from the limelight in 2023 after a decade-long stint with Sky Sports, before embarking on an inspiring charity fundraising endeavour.

The septuagenarian raised over £1million for DEBRA, a charity that provides support to individuals battling Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB), a debilitating condition that affects children's organs and development, causing their skin to become fragile and often leading to painful blisters.

His fundraising efforts included a gruelling 30-mile swim across the English Channel to raise awareness for this devastating disease.

Following his departure from Sky, Souness briefly joined talkSPORT, teaming up with Jim White and Simon Jordan for the Monday edition of their show.

After being awarded a CBE for his contributions to football and charity work in November 2024, he is now set to appear as a contestant on ITV's new series 'The Box'.

Lineker will be at the helm of the programme, which will see celebrities pitted against each other in a series of challenges. Filming is slated to commence this year.

The format of the show involves housing 10 celebrity contestants, ranging from ex-sports stars to reality TV personalities, in yellow boxes. They will be transported to undisclosed locations before being released and faced with various tasks.

Each week, two contestants will go head-to-head in 'The Duel', a finale showdown where the loser will be eliminated from the show.

On Sunday, the cast was confirmed with former Speaker of the House of Commons John Bercow joining Joey Essex, JB Gill, Danny Aarons, Jenny Ryan, Ranvir Singh, Sara Davies, Ellie Taylor and Shakira Khan.

Souness will be back in the public eye for the first time since his charitable efforts and appearance at Windsor Castle to accept the honour from the Prince of Wales.

The legendary Liverpool defender fought back tears speaking in 2023 after his magnificent feat, speaking to BBC Breakfast, he said: "It is the most horrendous disease.

"If you're inflicted by it, you must wake up every morning and say 'Why me?' It is a desperate situation, and then the parents have to deal with that - and that's what we're doing."
