Hamburg set record straight on second Luka Vuskovic 'loan agreement' with Tottenham

Reports in England have recently claimed Tottenham defender Luka Vuskovic is set to spend a second season on loan in Germany at Hamburger SV

Hamburger SV club sources have reportedly denied suggestions they've already agreed to sign Luka Vuskovic on loan from Tottenham for another season.

The young Croatian has flourished in the Bundesliga this term and his red-hot form has sparked speculation that a verbal agreement has already been reached between the parties over a second loan spell.

Crucially, Vuskovic's brother Mario also plays for HSV but is currently suspended due to a doping ban which is set to expire in November.

Naturally, there's believed to be appetite for Vuskovic to remain at the German club for another season so he can play alongside his brother.

However, local publication, Hamburger Abendblatt, have contacted club sources to check whether an agreement was already in place - that has been reported in England in recent days - and they receive firm denials.

That's not to say an agreement cannot and will not be reached at a later date but, for the meantime, a decision over Vuskovic's future is not expected to be on the agenda until the summer. The 18-year-old has already been linked with a number of top clubs, including Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund. Therefore, he's unlucky to be short of interest at the end of the season and Spurs may yet feel he's ready to be part of their first-team set-up. Vuskovic has scored three goals in the Bundesliga this season and also looks set to feature for Croatia at the World Cup finals. His father Danijel has already made it clear that he does not want to rush his son's development, even if that means completing more loan spells.

He told Croatian newspaper Sportske Novosti in December: "A lot is written about Luka. More than anything, he wants to stay at Hamburger SV to play alongside Mario. "But that's not up to him - he is under contract with Tottenham, and everything will be done in agreement with them. So far, everything has been completely fair; Spurs have respected Luka's opinion. "Until June, he is definitely at HSV, and after that we will sit down with Tottenham and see what's best. I am extremely satisfied with how he lives and trains.

"I would not like him to skip steps and go straight to the English Premier League, which I believe is the strongest in the world. There is still plenty of room for growth.

"As far as I'm concerned, it wouldn't be bad if he stayed in Germany."
