Harry Kane has fired a subtle dig at Chelsea by admitting Bayern Munich's in-game experience 'demoralised' the Blues during Wednesday's Champions League defeat at the Allianz Arena.
Enzo Maresca's men lost 3-1 against an in-form Bayern, with Trevoh Chalobah's own-goal and a brace from Harry Kane causing the damage. Cole Palmer netted for the Blues, but it didn't matter to the final result, as their first game in Europe's elite club competition for almost two-and-a-half years ended in defeat.
After the game, Kane then appeared to rub more salt in the wounds as he claimed that Bayern's game management disheartened Chelsea's hopes of getting back into the contest when it was 3-1. The Bundesliga side controlled the match after restoring their two-goal advantage, dominating possession and keeping the ball.
When asked if Bayern's experience helped them win, Kane told TNT Sports: "I think so.
"When it was 3-1 we were the team with the ball, making it hard to press and creating angles. That demoralises their hope in a way, they can't get the ball."
Meanwhile, Maresca was encouraged with Chelsea's performance as a whole. "I think overall the performance was quite good," the Italian said post-match. "We started very well for 20 minutes, creating chances. When we conceded the goal, we can avoid that kind of goal. We were in the game and scored."
Cole Palmer, however, gave a different outlook and instead highlighted his side's lack of concentration and inability to manage the key moments well. He said: "Yeah [frustrating]. We deserved more.
"We started well, had early chances but when you make mistakes at the highest level it's difficult. There was a lack of concentration, not managing the moments correct.
"We showed we can play against one of the best teams in the competition. We deserved more to be honest. The manager said to us before we can go toe-to-toe.
"It's a good learning curve and to be back in the competition is nice. I don't even know [what happened in the second half]. We're not coming here to be a learning curve. We showed we want to compete."
Chelsea are next in action when they travel to Manchester United in the Premier League on Saturday. The Blues then make the trip to Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup before heading home to face Brighton.
