Harry Maguire ready to make Man Utd decision amid Saudi transfer interest

15 hours ago 2

Harry Maguire is reportedly prepared to reject a huge offer from Saudi Arabia in favor of staying at Manchester United, provided they present him with a new contract.

Maguire's current contract expires in June and, as disclosed last week, he has caught the attention of Saudi clubs Al-Nassr and Al-Ettifaq. It comes after Bruno Fernandes explained his own decision to snub a move to Saudi Aarabia.

The seasoned England defender will be eligible to negotiate with other clubs come January, and a move to the Middle East could secure him a substantial contract as he approaches the end of his career. Maguire will celebrate his 33rd birthday in March.

There's an allure for the player to capitalise on what could be the final lucrative move of his career, especially if United maintain their stance to focus on the future and refrain from offering him a new contract.

They exercised the option in Maguire's existing contract last summer, a decision he ultimately had no say in. It is believed that Maguire could receive a $670,000-a-week deal from Saudi Arabia.

However, recent indications suggest that United are indeed contemplating offering the defender a contract extension. Discussions are set to occur in the upcoming weeks, but Maguire will seek assurances that the deal is suitable for him.

Maguire is aware that joining the Saudi Pro-League could hinder his chances of prolonging his England career, whether under Thomas Tuchel - should he remain beyond next summer - or a different manager.

And if he commits his future to United, he wants assurance that he will continue to play a crucial role in the club's plans, regardless of who is at the helm.

In a perfect scenario, Maguire would be content to spend the remainder of his career at Old Trafford. However, he is aware that the next contract he signs will likely be the last significant one of his career, and thus, the conditions must be suitable.

Meanwhile, United has been dealt an injury setback ahead of the game against Liverpool next week.

Ruben Amorim is waiting to find out the full extent of Ayden Heaven's problem. Both sides will be keeping their fingers crossed that their players come through the break unscathed, although United looks to have been handed an issue, with Heaven having raised fears over his fitness while away with England U20s.
