Harry Redknapp makes bold prediction for Liverpool vs Man Utd as two players tipped to star

1 day ago 2

Harry Redknapp has backed Liverpool to prove why it is the Premier League title holder when he hosts Manchester United this weekend, looking to bounce back from three successive defeats.

Before the international break, Liverpool lost to Crystal Palace, Galatasaray and Chelsea. But while Arne Slot's men are yet to fully click into gear after a summer of major changes, Redknapp believes this fixture could be the one that sees some key players find some form and show why the Reds were so keen to sign them for big money.

"Here we go, the big game of the week, and all of a sudden, a fascinating clash," Redknapp told Bet Victor.

"Liverpool have lost three in a row, but they’ve all been away from home, which can happen. I do think we’ll see an improvement from them here; the fans will make a difference.

"As for United, they beat Sunderland last time, but they gave up plenty of chances and it wasn’t the most convincing display. They actually played very well here last season and might have even won that game, so I wouldn’t write them off.

"It might be wrong, but I think this is the sort of game where we’ll see Liverpool show just why they were champions.

"One to watch I’m cheating and picking two players here, Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. So much has been written about these two big-money signings.

"Some of it has been fair; some of it’s been a bit overblown. This would be the perfect game to show their quality."

Liverpool will have Ryan Gravenberch and Ibrahima Konate available to take on Manchester United, but Alisson Becker is out. Giovanni Leoni is a long-term absentee.

"I think it should not matter who you are playing on Sunday or Saturday — but we play on Sunday — if you've lost three games in a row and you wear the Liverpool shirt. It doesn't matter who your opponent is, you have to react," Slot said in his pre-match press conference.

"If there's one thing I cannot blame the players [for], they give everything they have every single game. They go all in from the first until the last minute — this is what we did in the last three games as well.

"In all three games we had to come back from being 1-0 down and in two games we managed to do so, but unfortunately lost in the end where we were having chances in both games maybe more than our opponent to win it.

"But if you've lost three in a row, it doesn't matter if Man United is coming or Brentford next week, there should always be a reaction — not only from Mo [Salah] but from all the players."
