The ex-West Ham boss called out the Liverpool icon after a war of words with Frank Lampard escalated during a heated Premier League game
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp once found himself on the receiving end of Harry Redknapp's wrath after a heated exchange between the German icon and Frank Lampard. Liverpool face West Ham on Sunday, with both Redknapp and Lampard sharing deep connections to the Hammers – Redknapp guided the club between 1994 and 2001, whilst Lampard represented the Irons from 1995 to 2001.
The flashpoint came when Klopp's Liverpool locked horns with Chelsea in July 2020. The UK was firmly in the grasp of the Covid-19 pandemic at the time, with Premier League games taking place in empty stadiums.
Former England international Lampard was at the helm of the Blues when the sides met. Klopp had recently delivered Liverpool their first league championship in three decades.

The pair clashed on the sidelines and tensions quickly escalated. Following a free-kick being given after Mateo Kovacic fouled Sadio Mane on the edge of the box, Lampard objected to the Liverpool dugout's reaction and launched into an expletive-laden outburst directed at Klopp and his coaching team.
Trent Alexander-Arnold subsequently converted the set-piece to put Liverpool 2-0 ahead, with the Reds ultimately prevailing 5-3. Lampard afterwards cautioned Klopp against being "too arrogant" whilst the ex-midfielder also made clear his belief that a member of Klopp's coaching staff had "crossed the line".
Following his post-match media duties, Lampard found himself on the receiving end of criticism from the Liverpool manager for airing their disagreement publicly.
"Frank was in competitive mood, I respect that," Klopp said. "Say what you want in that situation, pure emotion, he came to win. But what he has to learn is speaking about that after the game when the whistle has gone is not OK. Final whistle, as a real sportsperson... close the book and he didn't do that and that is what I don't like, honestly."
Lampard's uncle and fellow Premier League legend Redknapp took exception to the remarks. "Frank has been around professional football since he was a toddler," Redknapp told The Sun.
"He doesn't need advice from anyone, although I've lots of respect for Klopp. Frank is very calm usually, he doesn't tend to get involved in things like this. For him to react like that, it must have been something to really wind him up."
Shortly afterwards, Lampard acknowledged his remorse regarding the confrontation, particularly the strong language he employed. Sky Sports subsequently broadcast footage containing audio of the exchange.
In it, Lampard says: "That's not a f*****g foul. I'm not asking you, I'm asking him to shut up!". He then turns to Klopp and adds: "Shut up. F*** off you as well. Tell them to show some respect. Sit down."
The then-Liverpool manager subsequently motioned for his staff to be seated, an action he repeated after the goal was scored. The Chelsea icon went on to clarify what had provoked his outburst, explaining: "I could have handled it differently but some of the reports were I was upset with the celebrations. Far from it. They can celebrate like every goal.
"I'd have had a beer with Jurgen Klopp after the game but there were things on the bench, not from Klopp, that I felt crossed a line. I regret the language but we'll move on."
Several months later, Lampard confessed he felt "embarrassed" about the entire incident, revealing on the High Performance Podcast: "Yeah, I did regret that.
"And when that broke [audio of the clash] the next day – I clearly felt it as I was doing it – but when it broke the next day and a friend of mine sent it to me in the morning, I was a bit embarrassed by it."
