Harvey Elliott lined up for Liverpool deadline day exit as Premier League rivals consider transfer

3 weeks ago 8

Aston Villa are weighing up a move for Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott before the transfer window closes. Elliott has been linked with a host of clubs so far this summer, most notably RB Leipzig, after admitting that he may have to leave Anfield to secure regular minutes.

He has struggled for game time so far this term under Arne Slot following the arrival of Florian Wirtz, and the signing of Alexander Isak will push him further down the pecking order.

According to The Times, Villa is monitoring Elliott before Monday's deadline but may look to move on Emiliano Buendia in order to facilitate the move. Liverpool is looking for around $68 million (£50 million) for the midfielder but a loan deal has not been ruled out.

Elliott was an unused substitute in the win over Arsenal on Sunday, having played the closing stages of the dramatic success at Newcastle last week.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an excellent summer with England's Under-21s before admitting that he will have to make a decision about his future, having featured sparingly last season.

Speaking to The Anfield Wrap, Elliott said: "If I had my way, I’d be at Liverpool for the rest of my career. I love everything about the club. But at the same time I kind of need to be selfish and see what’s best for me. I have big ambitions. I want to go to the World Cup. It’s still something I need to review

"We have had many new players come in, whether that blocks the path for me, I don't know. It is something I need to decide. My main focus is here, unless anything changes."

Liverpool is set for a busy end to the transfer window, with a record deal with Alexander Isak having been agreed with Newcastle.

The Swedish striker has been at the center of the summer saga, with Liverpool already having a bid rejected for his services. But talks resumed on Sunday, with a fee of $169M (£125m) now being agreed between the two clubs.

Liverpool is also keen on signing Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace, while AC Milan has made an approach for Joe Gomez. The defender's exit is unlikely, unless Liverpool can snap up Guehi.

Speaking after Palace's win over Aston Villa, boss Oliver Glasner insisted his side cannot afford to lose its talismanic captain.

Glanser said: "I like Marc, he's such a professional player, and is such a nice guy but it's for the future of Crystal Palace, it's for playing a successful season. We have to keep him.

"We have no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we just sell Marc if we have the right replacement in the building."
