How many games Brennan Johnson is set to miss after his Tottenham red card

Tottenham cruised past Copenhagen with a dominant 4-0 victory, but Brennan Johnson’s red card could cause future problems for Thomas Frank.

A 4-0 victory over Danish champions Copenhagen is the sort of response many Tottenham fans would have hoped for following their club’s dismal showing at the weekend against Chelsea, where they were outplayed for large spells and struggled to find any rhythm.

A goal in the 19th minute against the Danish side set Thomas Frank’s team on course for victory, before Wilson Odobert added a second early in the second half to provide Tottenham with a comfortable cushion.

However, a slight dent to what was a perfect night emerged when goalscorer Brennan Johnson was shown a red card after a reckless challenge, with studs up, following a VAR review.

Brennan Johnson set to miss crucial Champions League tie for Tottenham

UEFA’s explanation for the decision read: “Tottenham’s player No.22, using his studs, made a strong unfair contact with the opponent’s left ankle, which clearly endangered the safety of his opponent.”

Following his dismissal, the Welshman is now set to miss just one game for Tottenham as he serves his suspension.

Given that the red card was picked up in the Champions League, Johnson is expected to be available for domestic action, but will miss Tottenham’s next European clash after the November break.

Up next for Spurs in matchday five of the Champions League is a trip to defending champions Paris Saint-Germain in France, and Frank will not have Johnson at his disposal for that tie.

Spurs’ Champions League form and qualification chances

Spurs have been inconsistent all season, and one never truly knows which version of the side will turn up when the Lilywhites take to the pitch.

However, in the Champions League, there has been a measure of stability, with Tottenham winning two and drawing two of their opening four encounters.

This leaves Spurs in the automatic qualification places for now, making the trip to Paris even more intriguing as both sides aim to consolidate their positions in the top eight during the final matchdays of the competition.
