Chelsea have been given a major boost in their pursuit of Champions League football but need to improve their performances quickly

Arsenal's win over Sporting has guaranteed there will be five Premier League clubs competing in the Champions League next season in a major boost for Chelsea. The Gunners and Manchester City have all but secured their place in next season's competition, leaving three places up for grabs

The Blues have won just one of their last six top-flight games and have fallen out of the top-five, with Manchester United, Aston Villa and Liverpool now above them in the table. United are on 55 points, while Villa are on 54.

However, Chelsea just a point behind Liverpool in the final qualification spot for next season's tournament with seven games still to play.

Liam Rosenior's side can finish on a maximum of 69 points if they win all of their remaining games between now and the end of the season.

The Blues still have to play both Man United and Liverpool before the end of the campaign, which are must win games against direct rivals for the Champions League.
