Tottenham Hotspur could earn a huge prize money if they go all the way and win the Champions League. We break down how much the club can earn in each subsequent round.
Thomas Frank has admitted that Tottenham’s ambition is to win the Champions League, but the Lilywhites will be taking it one game at a time.
Spurs have a relatively favourable draw for the league phase of the Champions League, and they will fancy their chances of making it to the knockout stages.
This is the first time that Tottenham have experienced the new format of the Champions League, which has eight games in the league phase, and there is also more prize money to be won.
How much prize money can Tottenham win in the Champions League?
According to TBR Football, by simply qualifying for the Champions League, Tottenham Hotspur have already won a prize money of £16m.
For each of their wins in the league phase, they will get a prize of £1.8m, while each draw in this round will fetch a team £606,000.
If Spurs manage to finish in the top eight in the league phase, they will earn an additional £1.7m, while merely qualifying for the knockout stages by finishing in the top 24 will see teams earn £1m.
How much can teams earn in each knockout phase of the Champions League?
Teams that make it to the round of 16, either directly through the league phase or by playing an additional knockout round, would get £9.5m.
Qualification for the quarterfinals will boost the club’s coffers by another £10.8m, while semifinalists will get an additional £13m.
Each of the finalists who face off at the Puskas Arena in May of 2026 will get £16m, while the winner of the competition will be granted another £5.6m.
That means that if Tottenham manage to fulfil Frank’s objective and lift the trophy in Budapest next May, they will earn just under £90m in prize money alone.
