Tottenham Hotspur remain interested in a late deal for Conor Gallagher, but the North London club are not willing to pay Atletico Madrid’s asking price for the midfielder.
It emerged a few days ago that Spurs are set to explore a late move for Gallagher, who has fallen down Diego Simeone’s pecking order at Atletico.
Since then, reports from Spain have claimed that Tottenham are one of several Premier League clubs interested in Gallagher, the midfielder will not come cheap.
It has been alleged that it would take an offer of around €50m-€60m (£43.2m-£52m) to convince the La Liga club to cash in on the former Chelsea man.
Tottenham are not willing to meet Atletico Madrid’s asking price for Conor Gallagher
A new report in Saturday’s edition of Marca (as relayed by Sport Witness) has now confirmed that Tottenham are indeed considering bringing the 25-year-old back to the Premier League.
The outlet claims that Spurs are only willing to spend €42m (£36.3) for Gallagher, which is the same fee that Atletico paid to sign him from Chelsea last summer.
The report does not say how Atletico will react to such an offer, but it is revealed that the Spanish club are eyeing a late move for Juventus’ Nico Gonzalez.
The Argentina international would like to move to the Metropolitano Stadium, but Simeone’s men would first need to sell Gallagher to fund a move for the 27-year-old.
Why Conor Gallagher is not an answer to Tottenham’s issues
It has been widely reported that Thomas Frank is a big fan of Conor Gallagher, and it is easy to understand why, given the Englishman’s physicality and engine.
Tottenham Hotspur’s issues in the middle of the park were exposed against Bournemouth, but the former Chelsea man is not the answer.
Spurs have enough runners and destroyers in the middle of the park, of Gallagher’s mould. What they are lacking are players who can progress the ball forward.
