How much Tottenham would have to pay to sign Piero Hincapie this summer

Piero Hincapie could yet become Tottenham’s marquee defensive signing this summer, with a fresh detail emerging that may define the club’s next big move.

Despite completing the signing of five players so far this summer window, Tottenham Hotspur are reported to still be on the lookout for further additions to their squad.

Links to several players have been rife in the past few days, with reports linking Tottenham with a move for Eberechi Eze and Savinho.

While it did seem like most of Spurs’ attention was on their attack, football insider Paul O’Keefe has revealed that Tottenham are also looking at Piero Hincapie as their preferred left-centre-back target.

Tottenham target Piero Hincapie has summer release clause

It is claimed that Spurs appreciate the versatile centre-back; however, there is an understanding that it would take a significant amount of money to lure Hincapie away from Bayer Leverkusen.

A report from Florian Plettenberg, a few months ago, has now come to light, revealing just how much it would take if Tottenham are to land the Ecuadorian this summer.

The Sky Sports reporter revealed that Hincapie currently has a release clause in his contract, valid this summer, and that the clause is worth around €60m (£51m) for the 23-year-old centre-back.

Interestingly, in his report, the journalist stated that a summer move is not ruled out, as enquiries have already been made for the defender, although Leverkusen are very eager to keep him.

Atletico Madrid interest shows Hincapie’s growing value

Atletico Madrid, who were once after Tottenham captain Cristian Romero, have since turned their attention to Hincapie.

However, reports claim that the Spanish side failed to meet Leverkusen’s valuation of Hincapie, with their offer said to be short of his release clause.

Regardless, Leverkusen themselves, who have only just lost Jonathan Tah, are understood not to be open to selling Piero Hincapie, which could make it harder for Tottenham.

But with the defender having a release clause in his contract, it should be a case of Tottenham reaching it and then proceeding to close the deal, except, of course, another Gibbs White situation ensues.
