Everton will host a Merseyside derby at the Hill Dickinson Stadium for the first time this weekend, with Liverpool currently just five points ahead of its closest rival in the Premier League standings.

A win for Arne Slot's side would really establish it in its pursuit of the Champions League places, but a home victory would narrow the gap and throw the race for European competitions even more wide open.

With Everton in a positive mood and Liverpool struggling for form, predicting the result is tricky — but both David Moyes and Arne Slot will be desperate for the injection of confidence that a win would bring.

In the UK, the game will be shown live on Sky Sports Main Event and will be available to stream on Now TV. In the US, it will be screened by NBC Sports. The referee is Chris Kavanagh.

Liverpool will be without six senior players for the game, plus youngsters Jayden Danns and Stefan Bajcetic. Alisson Becker remains sidelined, while Hugo Ekitike sustained a serious Achilles injury this week.

Elsewhere, Wataru Endo, Conor Bradley and Giovanni Leoni are long-term absentees and Joe Gomez has also been ruled out. He came on and then went off again during the midweek game with PSG.

As for Everton, Moyes has confirmed that only Jack Grealish will be missing. Everyone else is available, with the likes of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall and Iliman Ndiaye in good form.

With Ekitike out, Alexander Isak will need to step up. He was only able to play 45 minutes in the Champions League and Slot believes the Swede being back could be decisive.

"[It's] very important," Slot said. "Although there are also other players that can fill in that position, but those players have played in different positions throughout their lives more and more.

"Cody [Gakpo] did really well when he came in in the second half [against PSG]. Of course, it's important.

"You don't get it like that, but the best thing [would be] that Hugo was still fit.

"But if he wasn't, then if this would have happened then two or three weeks later would have been better because Alex is not ready for 90 yet — depending on the intensity of the game, by the way, because you never know how a game is going to work out.

"He's getting closer and closer and now we need him but there are different options to play as a No.9 as well. Federico Chiesa is also one of them so there are different options, but it's definitely good to have Alex back now Hugo is injured."
