Tottenham has a mountain to climb if it is to overcome Atletico Madrid and book a place in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Spurs are 5-2 down in their last-16 tie after a disastrous first leg in the Spanish capital last week, and Diego Simeone's side will be fully expected to finish the job off in North London on Wednesday.

Having picked up a desperately-needed point at Liverpool at the weekend - the first time Igor Tudor had avoided defeat since being placed in charge - Tottenham will be hoping to pull off a remarkable comeback and keep its European adventure going for a little while longer.

Team news

Tottenham one again has a lengthy list of absentees to contend with - 13 players were unavailable for the weekend’s trip to Liverpool, although there will be some faces returning on Wednesday.

Micky van de Ven will likely return after being suspended against the Reds, while Cristian Romero is on course to be back after undergoing concussion protocols, although Joao Palhinha is still sidelined.

Lucas Bergvall looks set to be back in contention after returning to training on Tuesday, while Destiny Udogie is also fit again. Conor Gallagher could also return after missing the game against Liverpool with a fever.

Yves Bissouma, Mohammed Kudus, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Ben Davies and James Maddison remain out injured, while Richarlison is suspended after picking up a yellow card during the first leg.

As for the visitors, Atletico will be without goalkeeper Jan Oblak, as well as midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza. Pablo Barrios is considered a doubt.
