How Yoane Wissa feels about Newcastle United move after Tottenham approach

8 hours ago 19

Journalist Graeme Bailey has now confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have indeed made an approach for Yoane Wissa this summer and has revealed what the Brentford star thinks about joining Newcastle United after the Magpies’ recent offer.

Earlier this summer, it was reported that Yoane Wissa is keen to reunite with Thomas Frank at Tottenham, but the Lilywhites seemingly have not pressed forward with a move for the 28-year-old.

According to some publications, Brentford are surprised that an offer from Tottenham has not arrived for Wissa yet, but the Bees have now received an offer from another Champions League club for the centre-forward.

On Tuesday, news broke that Newcastle’s £25m bid for Wissa was turned down, but the Magpies are pressing forward with talks, undeterred by the rejected offer.

What is Wissa’s stance on joining Newcastle United?

Journalist Greame Bailey has now also backed up the claim about the rejected offer from Eddie Howe’s side, while also revealing that Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest have both held talks over a move for the DR Congo international.

He explained that Wissa is open to a move to St James’ Park and has already informed Brentford that he wants to leave the club.

Bailey told TBR Football: “We are told that Newcastle’s opening bid is in excess of £25million, but Brentford were quick to say no. Newcastle will return, but Tottenham and Nottingham Forest have also had talks.

“As it stands, Brentford are insisting they don’t want to sell, but we understand that Wissa has already made it clear to Brentford he wants to leave. Wissa, whilst having a clear connection with Spurs boss Thomas Frank, is open to a Newcastle move.”

Yoane Wissa prefers a move to Tottenham over Newcastle

According to various updates over the past week, Wissa is expected to favour a move to Spurs ahead of Newcastle if both clubs make offers.

However, some journalists have said over the last couple of weeks that Wissa is no longer seen as a priority signing by Tottenham, which may explain why the Lilywhites have not made a bid yet.

In his press conference last week, Thomas Frank hinted that Tottenham are unlikely to sign another striker, and it thus appears that the North Londoners may have ended their interest in the former Lorient man.
