Huge update reveals Daniel Levy was completely blindsided by Tottenham sacking

2 hours ago 16

A new update has revealed when Daniel Levy found out that he would be sacked from his role as Tottenham chairman, with the development catching him completely off guard.

Out of the blue, Spurs announced on Thursday that Levy had stepped down from his role as executive chairman of Tottenham, a position which he has held for nearly two and a half decades.

However, since then, reports have indicated that Levy was asked to resign rather than stepping down of his own accord following an internal review headed by Tavistock Group, who are the majority shareholders of ENIC.

It has been revealed that Joe Lewis’ children, Vivienne and Charlie, played a key role in the decision to dismiss the long-serving Tottenham chairman.

Daniel Levy only found out about his sacking hours before the announcement

The Times has now revealed that Levy was completely unaware that he would be asked to step down until hours before the news became public.

The report says that the 63-year-old had even set up several meetings for Friday, but was informed on Thursday morning that his services would no longer be required.

The news came as a shock to Levy, who was asked to stop working immediately. Even the staff and the players at Tottenham were completely in the dark about the decision until Thursday.

The majority learned the news through an email sent around internally by Spurs chief executive, Vinai Venkatesham, on Thursday, shortly before the club made the announcement at 6 pm.

Levy’s departure had been in the pipeline for months

The Times say that even though Levy himself and none of the senior staff knew what was about to happen until Thursday, the decision to sack the Spurs chairman had been in the pipeline for months.

It is explained that the changes that were made to the boardroom this summer, including the appointment of Venkatesham, were done with this in mind.

Venkatesham is now expected to take a hands-on approach in the running of the club, with Tottenham’s new set-up having the chief executive at the centre, which the hierarchy sees as a more modern structure, better-suited to leading Spurs to success.
