Liverpool has already splashed the cash this summer, and Arne Slot shows no signs of slowing down.
After securing Florian Wirtz for a club record fee, alongside goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez, the Reds are poised for another major acquisition. Talks have commenced with Eintracht Frankfurt regarding a potential move for striker Hugo Ekitike - who has already agreed personal terms.
The Merseysiders have tabled a written bid worth approximately £70 million ($94.2M) and are reportedly close to finalising personal terms with the 23-year-old. This comes despite ongoing speculation linking them with a £120 million ($161.5M) raid for Newcastle's Alexander Isak.
Whether or not the Ekitike transfer materialises, the club must offload players to maintain financial equilibrium this summer. Several Anfield favourites are expected to depart, including promising youngsters Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton.
The Premier League champions appear perfectly positioned to capitalize, with West Ham showing keen interest in both players, according to the Daily Mail. The Hammers are allegedly prepared to pay £40 million ($53.8M) for Elliott, 22, while Morton is valued at approximately £15 million ($20.2M).
Both players celebrated European Under-21 Championship success with England this summer and discussed their futures during the competition. Elliott, relegated to a peripheral role under Slot in the 2024/25 season, commented: "It's just a situation that me and the team have to have a conversation about.
"I don't really want to be wasting years of my career because it's a short career. I need to reflect. I need to see if I'm content in doing what I'm doing and how I can improve as a player because that's the most important thing."
Morton, aged 22 and with only five cup appearances last season under his belt, shared: "It's been the toughest season mentally for me. I've coped with it well because I've got good people around me, but it's been very tough. I think when you're not playing as a footballer who's as hungry as I am, it does hurt."
The list of potential departures doesn't end with Elliott and Morton; Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez are also rumoured to be on the verge of exits. Should the transfer of Ekitike be finalised, we could see the Reds stepping up their offloading strategy.
