The striker spent a year at Stamford Bridge after joining from Barcelona but has outlined his regret at making the move.
Former Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has labelled his move to Stamford Bridge as a ‘big f***ing mistake' and explained how the move came about.
The forward moved to Chelsea from Barcelona in the summer of 2022. But he lasted less than a year at Stamford Bridge before moving leaving the club.
During his time there, he played 21 times, scoring three goals and providing one assist. The move came despite his time with Arsenal, where he enjoyed a successful four years, playing 163 times and scoring 92 goals.
In his first few games for Chelsea, Aubameyang was forced to play with a protective mask after a break-in at his home. The incident saw him and his wife threatened with a gun, with the striker suffering a broken jaw after being attacked by the burglars.
Speaking on a podcast with Arsenal fan and content creator Troopz, Aubameyang has now given a very honest answer when it comes to his move to Chelsea.
“That was a big mistake going there,” he said. “It was a f****** big mistake.
“At that time, I had a bad moment in Barcelona. I had a home break-in and Barca needed to sell a player - me or Memphis Depay - and the only thing that was on the table was Chelsea.
“So I said, ‘OK, for my family, I will move away, even if it's Chelsea.’
“I was thinking maybe it will be OK, Olivier Giroud went from Arsenal to Chelsea and he had no problems, but for me it was different.”
After spending some time in Saudi Arabia with Al-Qadsiah, Aubameyang is now back in France with Marseille, who he re-joined in the summer.
So far this season, he has five goals in 14 appearances in Ligue 1 and the Champions League. He has also provided six assists to his teammates.
Speaking more about his time at Chelsea back in January, Aubameyang told the Athletic : “I never had that connection.
“No connections at all. The fans wanted the Auba they saw with Arsenal. At the time, I was not ready for that and didn’t get the opportunity.
“I was not ready, as well, because of what happened in Barcelona. It was a chaotic year, but it was good for me because I needed a break and, at the same time, they didn’t want to play me.”
