Sverre Nypan has made two appearances off the bench so far for Middlesbrough, but the Manchester City youngster is already impressing at the Riverside.
The 18-year-old joined Boro on a season-long loan after City signed the midfielder from Rosenborg for £12.5millon this summer, and Nypan has already caught the eye for the Championship table-toppers.
Rob Edwards' side have won all four of their second-tier games so far as they target a return to the Premier League. Nypan made a difference in the win against Sheffield United last weekend, coming on at half-time and contributing to the only goal of the game.
The Norwegian found Matt Targett with a pass from midfield and the full-back teed up Tommy Conway to score the winner, but for Edwards, it was a different moment that caught the eye.
"I thought Sverre was really good," Edwards said after his side maintained their winning start.
"My most pleasing part, other than the goal, was Sverre blocking one in the 18-yard box and then celebrating with a chest pump with Callum Brittain.
"That’s an 18-year-old lad who is quite a flairy player. But to then be celebrating blocks…he’s got used to England already. I love that!"
Nypan is considered one of the hottest talents in Europe and City beat off competition from Arsenal and Aston Villa to land his signature. The Blues decided to loan him to a domestic club this season with a view to completing his qualification as a homegrown player, for which he must spend the next three years in English football.
Nypan is now away with Norway Under-21s and could feature in games against Denmark and Slovenia this week, before returning to the north east. He could be in line for a first start for Middlesbrough when they face Preston North End at Deepdale after the international break.
