'I saw something in him': Igor Tudor drops big Souza hint at Tottenham

1 hour ago 3

Igor Tudor has hinted at a possible Souza selection ahead of Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace.

While victory has eluded interim Tottenham manager Igor Tudor, the former Juventus coach has shown he is willing to try new ideas.

He deployed his preferred 3-4-1-2 formation in his first match, a system that failed to deliver the desired outcome as Tottenham lost 4-1 to Arsenal.

Last time out, he adjusted the tactical set-up, opting for a 4-1-3-2 shape to suit the players available, yet Spurs again fell short as Fulham secured a 2-1 victory.

Tottenham boss Igor Tudor addresses Souza Premier League start decision

The Spurs manager may be forced into another alteration against Crystal Palace, this time driven by personnel rather than tactics.

Djed Spence is sidelined through injury and is expected to miss Thursday’s fixture, leaving Tudor to choose between Archie Gray, who filled in against Fulham at left-back, and new signing Souza.

When asked whether he would be prepared to hand Souza an opportunity, Tudor told football.london that he has been impressed by what he has seen, saying: “He was good, I saw something in him. He is there and waiting for his moment to play.”

Spurs weighing Souza call as selection dilemma deepens

Souza showed flashes of promise against Fulham during his brief cameo at left-back, offering some much-needed balance to the Tottenham attack.

Archie Gray, by contrast, did not appear as assured defensively, with Harry Wilson finding space at times down that flank. To be fair to the Spurs midfielder, he was out of position and playing on his weaker side.

That said, criticism must be measured, given Gray’s natural position is in midfield. With Spurs still searching for solutions, Tudor may yet turn to Souza and hand him his first Premier League start.
