Just when you think you can’t be let down any more by this Liverpool team this season, it manages to produce low after low until you’ve had enough.
I’m at that point now. Having seen Erling Haaland complete his hat-trick and Mohamed Salah round off a dreadful afternoon with the most inevitable penalty miss of all time, quite frankly ANYTHING could have dragged me away from watching the Reds capitulate once again. Maybe there was some washing up that needed doing, perhaps some paint I could watch dry for a while.
I stuck with it though. Granted, that was an easier decision to make from the comfort of my couch, so the supporters who actually made the trip to the Etihad Stadium - despite everything that has been served up to them recently - and stayed until the end should be applauded, and there were still plenty of them.

Dominik Szoboszlai’s reaction as he seemingly took his frustration out on those disgruntled supporters was baffling to say the least, and insulting if we’re going to be completely honest. Thank goodness for Federico Chiesa dragging him away to avoid escalating the situation any further.
You can understand why Szoboszlai might be angry, but he’s directing that at completely the wrong people. Saturday was just the latest in a line of humiliating results this season, and those fans have every right to voice their displeasure.

And the Hungarian should know better. It was only three weeks ago that he was warning his teammates about what would happen if performances continued in the same manner after the draw at home to - let’s be real - an absolutely appalling Tottenham side.
Have performances improved since then? Bar the win over Galatasaray, no. So why should those traveling fans keep cheering and clapping when the players aren’t holding up their end of the bargain?
They, like me and anyone else, have their limits, and they’ve been reached amid some truly dismal displays. 4-1 against PSV, 3-0 against Nottingham Forest, draws at home to Burnley and Tottenham, defeat to Wolves, and now the third and heaviest defeat against City this season.
And when your captain is admitting that players are 'giving up' - Virgil van Dijk’s actual words, by the way - you’re in no position to start having a go at supporters.

Those same fans will keep turning up, but if they’re anything like me, they’re sick and tired of what they’re seeing, and they’d be more than happy if the season just came to an end now.
The performances are dire, the results even worse, players seemingly admitting they’re not up for the fight, one player acting like best friends with the opposition before the game’s even finished. There are trophies to be won and a place in the most coveted competition up for grabs, but you wouldn’t know it from watching this team right now.
And, to top it all off, a player who seems to think the fans aren't doing enough. If Szoboszlai and his teammates expect to get more support, then they need to start acting like they actually deserve it.
