Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney says he knows exactly how Thomas Frank feels amid growing speculation around his future as Tottenham Hotspur boss. The 52-year-old has struggled to deliver results since his move to the club last summer and the Spurs hierarchy are reportedly considering his future.

Defeat to West Ham United at the weekend saw Spurs drop to 14th in the Premier League table, with just seven wins from 22 top-flight games this season.

Large sections of the Spurs fanbase have already lost faith in the Danish boss, chanting 'you're getting sacked in the morning' during the latter stages of the defeat to the Hammers.

Spurs have won just once in their last eight games and are out of both domestic cup competitions. They face Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League later this week, which could be crucial to their progression in the tournament.

Rooney believes that Frank will know a change in the dugout is in the offing and admits he knows how that feels after his sacking as Plymouth boss last year.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Rooney said: "I've seen Thomas Frank at the end of the game and I felt for him. I've been in that position and it's not a nice place to be.

"It's a lonely place to be sometimes and especially when he'll be feeling that a change is coming. I think the Tottenham fans have spoken.

"We've seen it before with the Tottenham fans and they're not happy with what's going on. Unfortunately, when that happens, it looks like he'll lose his job.

"I've stood at Elland Road and I knew it was coming just after New Year. New Year's Day actually I think.

"Yeah, you know and it's not a nice feeling because you want the ground to swallow you up."

Spurs have lost eight of their last 14 games and won just two of their last 13 Premier League fixtures, with Frank accepting that the blame lies with him.

Speaking after the defeat to West Ham, he said: "Of course, I’ve probably had better times. It’s probably not the best time of course, but I understand, I’m the man in charge, so the blame will go to me. That’s fair.

"No problem in that sense. As long as they are backing the players, doing everything they can to support them and drive them forward, that’s what we do and we will keep going forward."
