'I've seen Randal Kolo Muani to Liverpool transfer rumor — Reds know what to do'

With just a little over a month remaining of the season, attentions are inevitably beginning to turn toward the summer transfer window, and it seems the rumormongers are coming out of hibernation.

After last year’s mammoth spending spree, Liverpool fans probably shouldn’t be expecting another window like that one, especially when an $82 million deal has already been done for Jeremy Jacquet.

Having said that, Arne Slot’s side clearly needs more work. There are plenty of areas you could pick out, but there can’t be too much debate that the Reds’ attacking options need bolstering, especially with Mohamed Salah on his way out.

What’s more, Hugo Ekitike’s injury has increased the need for a new forward or two. The Frenchman is set to miss the start of next season after rupturing his Achilles, and with no clear comeback date, even Slot seems to be aware where his priorities lie.

"I think you always take into account which players you are having available for large parts of next season and then you think 'what's there on the market, what can we afford, who wants to come to us?'," Slot said last week.

He then added: "So a lot of factors go into a decision and one of them is definitely Hugo being out and the other one is what is available and what does the rest of the team look like and what do we need?”

In an ideal world, Liverpool would probably get at least two new forwards in this summer - one to act as an heir to Salah, the other to cover for Ekitike. That will be costly though, and even with Champions League qualification now looking more assured, the Reds might not be able to stretch that far - not without neglecting other areas.

A one size fits all approach might be the solution then, and it’s no surprise that players who could cover all the positions in the front three are beginning to spring up in the transfer rumors - not that the latest name is all that appealing.

According to reports in Italy this week, Liverpool is interested in Randal Kolo Muani. The speculation began when TuttoJuve claimed that Slot had already approved a deal for the 27-year-old, who is also being eyed up by Juventus as he prepares to return to Paris Saint-Germain from his loan at Tottenham.

The reports have since moved on from there, with La Gazzetta dello Sport claiming that alarm bells are now ringing at Juve amid a fear that Liverpool could win the race for his signature, with PSG having not plans to keep him.

As always with these rumors, you can take the links with Kolo Muani with a pinch of salt. To be brutally honest, let’s hope there isn’t a grain of truth in them.

Yes, Liverpool could do with a player who can cover across the whole of the front line, and Kolo Muani ticks that box. Judging by his disastrous spell at Tottenham though, there aren’t many other boxes to tick.

He has just one goal from 25 Premier League appearances this season. If we’re being generous, we could throw in his one assist as well to take him up to two goal contributions. In anyone’s books though, that’s such a poor return.

It would be fair to say that Spurs haven’t exactly been the most accommodating team for a player looking to give their career a much-needed boost, but any forward worth their salt would surely have contributed more, even in Tottenham’s dire situation.

We all know what Liverpool needs in the summer, and Kolo Muani is not the answer. If Juventus want him, let it have him - this is a deal the Reds should be going nowhere near.
